Published on the occasion of Andy Warhol: Who is Who? at the galleries Paris and Upper East Side locations, this catalogue includes full plate images, installation images, archival images, and an essay in French and English by Bernard Blistène.
The exhibition traced Warhol's art historical appropriations through the 1970s and 1980s, featuring seminal examples of works from series such as Heads (After Picasso), The Last Supper, Mona Lisa, After de Chirico, and The Scream (After Edvard Munch). By holistically examining Warhol's dialogues with art history, Who is Who? offered new insights into Warhol's interests: his relationship to icons, both religious and secular; his collapsing of the boundaries between high and low; his interest in mass reproduction; and his perceived place within this grand lineage.
