Jana Schröder
(Born 1983)
Jana Schröder was born in Brillon, Germany in 1983. As a student at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, her teacher, Albert Oehlen, strongly influenced the beginning of her artistic practice.
From flat tints saturated with strong colors to lines of liquid forms that criss-cross and challenge each other, Jana Schröder’s works testify to a total poetic freedom that often envelopes the viewer. Her various recent exhibitions—including D. A. M. Alfonos Artiaco, Naples (2024); FRONTRACKS, Galerie Bärbel Grässlin, Frankfurt (2024); ÉQUIPE TACHISTOSCOPIQUE, Skarstedt, Paris (2023) and PERLASYNTHICS, Nino Mier Gallery, New York — have each revealed Jana Schröder’s desire to delve deeper into the properties of the colours she uses. The artist makes them interact through the space they occupy, their translucence, the emotions they trigger and their position in the chromatic spectrum.
Jana Schröder’s practice is marked by a strong psychic resonance. The movement of forms and the delicate kinaesthesia that she depicts are nothing but the fruit of her mind. In this way, each painting echoes deep meditation and introspection. The canvas receives colour as Schröder’s thoughts and feelings flow and calm.
Her work can be found in the collections of Sammlung Graesslin, Sankt Georgen; Aïshti Foundation, Beirut; Friedrichs Foundation, Weidingen and Miettinen Collection, Helsinki.
